




The Business
Established in 1976 in the city of Beauport (Quebec) by master glassblower
Jean VALLIERES, the Verrerie la Mailloche specializes in traditional
glassblowing on the rod and produces hand crafted glass works.
In 1992 the facility moved to Place-Royale, the cradle of French civilization
in America, and joined the «Société internationale des entreprises
Économusée».
Products are sold wholesale and retail, and artifacts are available to customer
specifications or design.
The Workshop
The workshop is on the ground floor and each year more than 200,000 visitors
can observe the craftsmen at work producing decorative and useful artifacts.
More than 100 different models are created and produced in six
different colours which are the trademark of the
Verrerie La Mailloche.
The glass artifacts are in shades of blue, green and burgundy, and are often
enhanced with silver or gold leaf.
The Shop and International Gallery
The glasswork production is sold in the second floor shop, next to the
international gallery where original artifacts from different countries are
displayed to complement the commercial area.
Collections
The glass artifacts created at the Verrerie la Mailloche are featured
in numerous public museological collections : Alcan, Massey, Imperial Oil,
the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. They also highlight recognized private collections
belonging to the Queen, Elizabeth II, the former American president Mr. Ronald
Reagan, the former French president Mr. François Mitterand, the late
Jacqueline Picasso, the majors of
the G-7, the Secretary-General of the United Nations...
Achievements and international visibility
A nominee in the Fidéide Entreprise Culturelle (1995-1996, 1999-2000),
the Verrerie la Mailloche fulfills each year its assignments to national
and international standards, affording it a character : a most performing
cultural venture.
- Issuance of a stamp about glass-blowing,
featuring Jean Vallieres' hands, in 1999 : the Canada
Post Corporation.
- The [design and construction] of a glass ceiling at the Charlevoix
Casino.
- The design and crafting of official gifts offered to heads of
states at the Sommet des pays francophones, Moncton, 1999.
- Official gifts offered to the Canadian premiers ate the Quebec
summit, 1999.
- Glass artifacts made for numerous corporations.
